A Treatise Still to Come
Over the last few years, there have been countless articles (online and off) offering ever more countless forms of opinioneering and commentary on all kinds of subject matter great and small.
In particular, the twin ideas of freedom and liberty have been especially popular. Certainly a subject that I have wished to espouse my own tuppence worth upon, on more than one occaision.
I have stopped myself only on the fear of the likely maelstrom of incoherent, and ill-considered rant-like babble that would ensue once my fingers were let loose on the keys.
Instead, I have decide to take my time on a piece which will hopefully be a damn sight easier to follow that it might otherwise have been. Hopefully I should have it all finished in the next week or two, and I will present it here for anyone who may wish to read it.
In the meantime, I will leave you with this aphorism from George Orwell for you to ponder.
If large numbers of people believe in freedom of speech, there will be freedom of speech even if the law forbids it. But if public opinion is sluggish, inconvenient minorities will be persecuted, even if laws exist to protect them.
