Who let the dogs out?
Recent events (at least from a UK perspective) have, shot into a cocked hat, all of my attempts to write a piece about democracy/freedom.
The current uproar surrounding MP’s expenses, or rather abuses of the system, has gripped the nations imagination, and righteous indignation. The usual calls for heads on pikes, made way for calls for a General Election (long overdue to my mind), only to be joined by talk of possible radical reform and constitutional change.
Granted, the cynic in me thinks that it’s all been heard before…….. but, I can’t help but wonder.
With a government that has lost the plot (if I was feeling particularly uncharitable, I could say that they never did), and arguably little in the way of authority; it would seem Parliament is following in the same course. Not to forget the populace, who quite rightly, are baying for blood. It would seem that, these are remarkable times.
It’s all like something out of a history lesson.
And if I can stop long enough to scrape my jaw off the floor, and stop my head from exploding, I may just be able to take it all in.
Random quote (for all you quote junkies, you know who you are…. ):
